Nate and I recently visited the Texas State Capitol here in Austin. We walked in at the perfect time to get a free tour. One of the main things we learned from the guide is that Texans are not modest :) Hence the Lone State Stars on everything including door hinges and light fixtures. It is a beautiful capitol building.
As part of his History of Texas lesson, he reviewed the time period when, "Texas let the United States join them." We got a kick out of that.
Note that the star chandelier spells out "Texas."
