Bats!

This is the Congress Avenue bridge in Austin. Home to approximately 1.5 million bats that migrate from Mexico each year. It is also the largest urban colony of bats in North America.

One evening before dusk, we decided to see what it looks like when this amount of bats flies out from underneath their bridge to go out and feed on bugs (approximated to be anywhere from 20,000 to 30,000 pounds of insects each night).

It was an incredible sight. And another free entertainment item to add to our list!

A lot of other Austonians came to watch as well.

This is the stream of bats off in the distance. They travel within a 20 mile radius of the bridge. It took a decent amount of time for all of them to leave the bridge!
