Discovering Austin: Barton Springs, SoCo and Pizza

This past Friday, we were smack dab in the middle of another 100+ day in our lovely new city of Austin. We decided that we needed to take a break and head to the Barton Springs Pool, a large man-made, spring-fed pool in Zilker Park. Before we hopped in the car though, we added our newest bling to our-yet-to-be-named Matrix. A nice faux chrome Bevo steerhead. Hook 'em horns!

Finally able to flaunt our UT alliance, we made our way to the south side of the river. When we arrived at the springs it was 104 degrees outside! The pool is rather large and entirely spring-fed. The water was relatively clear, but most importantly nice and cool. As a bonus, you get a semi-obstructed view of downtown while you're cooling off.

The water is 68 degrees year round which somehow made the 104 seem bearable. Once we had enough with flopping around in the pool, we decided to find a spot in the grass and relax on our towels. It took no more than three minutes for us to entirely dry off and again we were forced to go running back to comforting arms of AC. Not before Domi got a sweet shot of me sporting my prescription sunglasses.

We took the scenic route on the way back checking out the rest of Zilker Park and then headed up and down South Congress (called SoCo here). The view of the skyline heading north on SoCo was phenomenal. Definitely no restrictions on buidling heights relative to state capitols here.

The plan was to head back home, toss on some Packer gear, and then go watch Brett Favre make a fool of himself for his Viking debut. Unfortunately, we forgot to account for the fact that there was a Cowboys game at the same time leaving spare TV's and chairs difficult to come by at the bar. We decided to pick up some pizza fixins and throw together a pepperoni and feta pie. It was delicious.

The rest of the cooking can be found here.

I was hoping you would get one of those UT car thingies! I see so many of those. And it almost looks like Nate isn't wearing swim trunks in his super cool sunglasses pic!
